In part two of our remote audit series, we wanted to share with you some tips and tricks within Fundriver that will help make your audits a breeze – all while social distancing! As a cloud-based program, Fundriver’s tools are all available remotely, which can help during this abnormal audit season. Here are some reminders of Fundriver’s great features and how they can make your audit season easier!

Read-only Access to Fundriver: Did you know that you can set up users with read-only access in Fundriver? This can allow auditors (or others) to view any data, run reports, etc., without being able to make any changes within Fundriver. You can learn more about setting up users and the available user types in this article: How Do I Add A User in Fundriver? Some other tips related to user accounts:

  • User accounts in Fundriver that are no longer needed are deactivated rather than deleted. The primary reason for this is so that the audit history is kept intact.
  • User accounts are disabled after three unsuccessful log-in attempts. Any user with Client Administrator permissions can reset the password for you, or you can reach out to our support team for assistance.
  • Need a customized user role? Our free Role Manager feature can be used to set specific user permissions; you can learn more in this article: Role Manager Overview
  • We offer sign in via SSO as an add-on module; if your organization utilizes SSO and you’d like to learn more about setting up this security for your account, please reach out to our support team!

Reporting: All reports in Fundriver can be exported to PDF, Excel, and Word. Just click the disk “Save” icon in the top bar to select a format to export to. Some other tips related to reporting:

  • Audit footnote reports based on the old reporting guidance (classified as Permanently, Temporarily, and Permanently Restricted) are in the Report folder titled “FAS 117-1.” See section below for new reporting guidance: ASU 2016-14.
  • The “Audit Logs” report folder contains many reports that may be helpful, too – history of reconciliations, fund changes, transaction changes, etc.
  • Looking for data that you aren’t seeing in an existing report? We have a tool you can use to build your own reports! You can read more here: User Defined Reporting Tool

ASU 2016-14: New reporting guidance (classified as With Donor Restriction or Without Donor Restriction) are in the Report folder titled “ASU 2016-14.” Though most of our clients have already completed one reporting cycle under the new ASU 2016-14 guidance, we still wanted to share a few resources related to the new reporting guidance:

  • Here are some notes about the the changes made in Fundriver to accommodate ASU 2016-14: FASB ASU 2016-14: Updates to Fundriver
  • Seeing differences in beginning balances? The differences you are seeing may be caused by underwater funds and the change in reporting under ASU 2016-14. Underwater amounts were previously reclassified to “Unrestricted” but now remain in their original restriction, so underwater restricted funds are reported under “With Donor Restriction.”
  • Of course, our blog series from last year may be worth another read, too: ASU 2016-14 blog articles

System Security: We take security seriously and are audited annually to ensure that we remain compliant with SOC requirements. If your auditors would like a copy of our SOC report, please reach out to our support team and we’ll get one sent to you! Curious to know more about our backup policy, data storage, etc.?
